We are proud to share that Hunter Health is one of six organizations selected to receive grant funding to support residents in Sedgwick County affected by groundwater contamination.
A total of $3.5 million has been awarded across the six recipients to ensure community members — especially those living near 29th and Grove — have access to free health screenings, including blood tests and other clinical assessments related to potential chemical exposure.
Organizations receiving grant funds are:
Hunter Health: $603,750
HealthCore: $1.37 million
GraceMed: $603,750
Wichita Black Nurses Association: $603,750
I Am Wichita: $285,000
Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation: $35,000
* The Kansas Health Foundation was selected by the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County to administer the grants.
This support is critical for neighborhoods impacted by a railyard chemical spill that occurred in the 1970s but was not discovered by residents until 2022.
Special thanks to Tara Nolen, Director of Population Health, who has been championing Hunter Health’s involvement in the project through the writing of the grant proposal and representing our clinic through a collaborative effort to address this issue affecting our community.
