Standing with the LGBTQ+ Community During Pride Month

At Hunter Health, our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in our community, including our LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, but also to acknowledge the health disparities and barriers many LGBTQ+ individuals still face.

Mental health challenges remain especially urgent. According to The Trevor Project’s 2024 survey, 39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year — including 46% of transgender and nonbinary young people. LGBTQ+ youth of color reported higher rates than white peers. This highlights the critical need for inclusive, affirming care. At Hunter Health, we are committed to providing comprehensive services in a safe, respectful environment where every person is valued and supported.

That’s why our work goes beyond the clinic. Through ongoing community engagement, including our participation in Wichita’s Pride Parade and Festival on June 28, we continue to advocate for inclusive care that uplifts every member of our community. We’re here to stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors every step of the way.

By standing as a beacon of support, organizations like ours are contributing to a future where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is treated with respect and dignity. Together, we can build a healthier community for all. Happy Pride Month!
