Hunter Health is proud to be part of Clearway Testing, a community-wide program that provides FREE health testing for members of our community who may have lived, worked, or spent time in areas where groundwater has been polluted by harmful chemicals.

Together, we are helping residents find a clear way forward.

If you feel you are at risk of exposure to contaminated groundwater in Sedgwick County, you should consider.

WHAT Services are Covered?

Clearway partners offer FREE testing to look for specific health issues related to exposure to groundwater contamination, not levels of harmful chemicals in the body.

Testing is FREE through December 31, 2026. 

You and/or your insurance will not be billed for the tests included below. Your first health screening from Hunter Health will include:

  • Blood tests that:
    • Measure liver and kidney function
    • Look for anemia and other problems
    • Screen for certain liver concerns 
  • Urinalysis to check for blood
  • If follow-up testing is needed, other covered services may include:
    • An abdominal ultrasound to further examine the liver and kidneys
    • Other lab work

WHERE AND WHEN Can I Get Tested at Hunter Health?

Hunter Health is committed to testing all individuals who feel they may be at risk of exposure to contaminated groundwater. Our appointment schedule and process to take advantage of this free health screening is simple:

  • Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 9am – 3pm and are needed for the free health screeningNo walk-in appointments will be granted for this screening.
  • Call Hunter Health at (316) 262-2415 to schedule.
  • You must mention “TCE testing” or “groundwater contamination testing”

In some parts of Sedgwick County, chemicals called TCE and PCE were found in groundwater years ago. Some people may have been exposed without knowing it. Health changes can take a long time to show. Testing helps you understand your health and take care of yourself.

No. Testing is free and does not require insurance. Getting tested will not affect your benefits.

If you or someone you know is homebound and wants to get tested, call the Wichita Black Nurses Association at 316-882-1778 to schedule a free at-home visit.

Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a man-made chemical that was widely used in the past to clean metal parts and remove grease. Over time, it was found in groundwater in some areas of Sedgwick County.
Perchloroethylene (PCE) is a man-made chemical often used in dry cleaning and metal cleaning. It was later found in groundwater in some areas of Sedgwick County.
No. These tests do not look for TCE or PCE in your body. Instead, the tests look at your overall health and check for certain health effects that may be linked to past exposure to these chemicals. Testing helps you better understand your health and decide if any follow-up care is needed.
