At Hunter Health, we believe that diversity and inclusion are the cornerstones of quality care. As we honor National Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, we take this time to recognize and celebrate the profound contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our nation and to our own organization.
With about 28% of our workforce identifying as Hispanic, their rich cultural heritage and unique perspectives play a crucial role in shaping who we are as an organization and how we deliver care to our diverse patient population.
Embracing Diversity in Health Care
Our Hispanic staff bring a wealth of knowledge, cultural competency, and passion to Hunter Health. Their ability to connect with and understand our Hispanic patients helps ensure that we offer care that is culturally sensitive, compassionate, and effective.
Whether serving as medical professionals, support staff, or behind-the-scenes team members, their influence is felt throughout the clinic in every interaction, decision, and patient experience.
Honoring Hispanic Heritage Through Our Work
As we celebrate this month, we also reaffirm our commitment to continuing the work that uplifts and supports our Hispanic communities. From providing health services to underserved populations to addressing health disparities, Hunter Health strives to offer care that meets the unique needs of the Hispanic community in our area.
Our team is dedicated to understanding the social, cultural, and economic factors that impact health outcomes and ensuring that our services are inclusive and accessible.
A Message from Paul Estrada Cruz
Our Marketing Director, Paul Estrada Cruz, who proudly represents his Hispanic heritage, shares this message:
“National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time for all of us to reflect on the strength and resilience of the Hispanic community. As someone who deeply values my heritage, I’m honored to be part of a team that celebrates diversity every day. At Hunter Health, we don’t just recognize Hispanic Heritage Month — we live it, in the way we treat our patients, support our community, and uplift our employees. It’s a privilege to work alongside so many talented individuals who share a deep commitment to making a difference.”
A Message from Airial Wedel
Hunter Health’s Facilities and Safety Coordinator, Airial Wedel, reflects on the significance of the month:
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It’s a celebration of diversity that strengthens the fabric of our nation and inspires us to work together for a brighter, more inclusive future.”
Celebrating Together
Throughout the month, Hunter Health will be involved in several initiatives to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, including:
- Community Outreach: Locally, there are several events in Wichita held throughout the celebration, and there are lots of Latino-owned and operated shops, markets, bakeries, and restaurants you can support. Hunter Health is proud to be one of the sponsors of the Latin Fest ICT event, taking place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Old Town Square, 2nd and Mead. Admission is free, and the event will be a vibrant celebration of Hispanic culture, featuring music, food, and entertainment for all.
Looking Ahead
National Hispanic Heritage Month is not just a time for celebration but also a moment for reflection. At Hunter Health, we’re committed to creating a workplace that values every individual’s heritage and experiences. By doing so, we believe we can continue to improve health outcomes for all of our patients.
As we move forward, we’ll remain focused on building a culturally competent team that mirrors the diversity of the community we serve. To our Hispanic colleagues: Thank you for your contributions, your dedication, and your passion for health care. We are proud to stand beside you, not just this month, but every day.
