We aim to make healthcare a better system for everyone, especially you and the people you love. We provide patient-centered services, meaning we care about each of our patients individually, and offer a tailored treatment plan that best fits their lifestyle and goals.

We offer extended hours, same day appointments and provide instruction on how to meet your health care needs when our office is not open, giving you 24-hour access to medical care.

History

Hunter Health was founded in 1976. Vernon Dyer, a Prairie Band Potawatomie OB/GYN physician, opened the clinic in response to the overwhelming need for culturally appropriate healthcare services for Urban Indians. The clinic started in a back room at the Mid-American All Indian Center, but demand for services grew so rapidly among Wichita’s Native American community that the clinic moved to a larger location in 1978 and incorporated in 1980 as the Wichita Urban Indian Health Center.

In 1985, the clinic expanded to serve all people and was renamed Hunter Health Clinic, in honor of Jay and Vera Hunter, respected Indian elders and school teachers. Eventually, Hunter Health expanded into three locations. For more than 40 years, Hunter Health has been offering affordable care to members of Sedgwick County and the surrounding communities. We are committed both to this model of healthcare and our patients.
